DRUGS INTERACTIONS
-Metronidazole + Warfarin
Metronidazole inhibits the metabolism of warfarin by
blocking CYP2C9 may lead to fatal bleeding.
-Furosemide + Gentamycin
Leads to hearing loss.
-Sildenafil + Sublingual Nitroglycerin
Both causes Vasodilation, severe hypotension and maybe
death.
-Non dihydropyridine (Verapamil, Diltiazem) + Beta Blockers
Both cause severe bradycardia and heart block.
-Tetracyclines + Penicillins
Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic, inhibits growth of
bacteria while penicillin work only on actively dividing organisms.
-Antacids or Anti-Ulcer + Iron In pt. with IDA
Iron needs acidic to be absorbed.
-Omeprazole + Clopidogral
Omeprazole decreases effect of clopidogral by affecting hepatic
enzyme CYP2CI9 metabolism.
-Azithromycin + Antihistamines
Severe chest pain and prolong QT intervals.
-Ondansetron + Tramadol
Ondansetron decreases analgesic effect of tramadol.
-Warfarin + NSAIDs
Increase the risk of GIT bleeding.
-K sparing diuretics + ACEI (Captopril)
Leads to hyperkalemia.
-Statin + Gemfibrozil
Increase risk of myopathy.
-Ciprofloxacin, Cimitidine, Fluvoxamine, Clarithromycin, Erythromycin
+ Theophylline
These drugs are CYP450 inhibitors leads to inc. in Theophylline
level in blood leading to death.
Ondansetron is the most safest and most effective
anti-emetic in children.
Fluconazole (Antifungal) must be taken with fatty meal to
increase absorption.
All breastfeeding baby's should receive Vit.D supplements
til the age of 1 year.
