Glutathione Biomarkers

    Glutathione is an antioxidant and detoxifying molecule that is produced in all of your cells. Structurally, glutathione is a tripeptide composed of three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. Glutathione acts as a direct antioxidant. The thiol group is important – this sulfur compound allows glutathione to donate electrons to neutralize reactive oxygen species.

     Glutathione can also bind to molecules with the help of detoxification enzymes to eliminate certain types of toxins and heavy metals.

     Another function of glutathione is to modulate the immune system by regulating the functionality of Treg cells.

 Through Metabolomics we can understand how the body synthesizes and recycles Glutathione.

 -Pyroglutamic Acid – Reflects the recycling of Glutathione;

 -Alpha-hydroxybutyrate – Indicates the synthesis of Glutathione.

     Glutathione assessment through Metabolomics is essential to maintain metabolic balance and prevent diseases related to oxidative stress.
