USE OF OMEGA-3 DURING PREGNANCY
Omega-3 includes the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs): α-linolenic (ALA), eicosapentaenoic (EPA), docosapentaenoic (DPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) – the last three referred to as long-chain (n-3 LCPUFAs). These essential fatty acids – not produced by the body and must be obtained through dietary sources – are the structural components of the central nervous system and their role in learning, skills and memory has been well documented.
PROVEN BENEFITS OF USE OF OMEGA-3
DURING PREGNANCY
-Children of mothers supplemented
with omega-3 have better mental processing, learning, memory, psychomotor
development and hand-eye coordination, as well as prevention of attention
deficit.
-Positive effect on the child's
vision. DHA is one of the main structural fats in the retina of the eye,
accounting for up to 60% of the total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs).
-Adequate levels of DHA in the
diet appear to be crucial for building long-term neuronal resilience for
optimal brain performance, and help in the battle against neurological
diseases. Better health during pregnancy and childbirth.
-Better growth and development of
babies. Greater adaptation to stress during pregnancy and prevention of
perinatal depression.
